Serious question – how do people feel about affiliate links?
Are they a turn-off?
I recently signed up for an Amazon Associates account. Apparently if someone clicks through one of my links and then buys something, they pay the same price as everyone else, but Amazon sends me a few cents as a commission.
I don’t really see myself hawking a bunch of random junk, but there are some products that I have used that have really come through.
Here’s an example. (warning! Affiliate link incoming!) I stumbled across a nail polish color that I thought was really pretty. I ordered it for my wife and she really liked it too. A few days later she was hanging out with me while I was bowling and one of the guys on my team noticed the color and liked it so much that he ordered it for his wife right then. As an amusing aside, less than 5 minutes later his wife texted him and said “Did you just order NAIL POLISH from Amazon?????”
So, I guess it wasn’t a surprise…
Here’s the polish – what do you think? Should I promote something like this?
ILNP “Good Fortune” Nail Polish
Maybe this is a good time to link back to my post on guys painting their toenails? Why is everyone so “judgy”??? I haven’t worn this color myself, but I probably will one day.
So, again, how do people feel about affiliate links? Is it reasonable to promote products that I have used and liked? Is it weird that I might make a few pennies from it? Should I keep my thoughts to myself?
Is this going to make me rich beyond my wildest dreams? 🙂
